Watches of the week: 11/16/2020 – 11/22/2020
Welcome to the next installment in our regular series covering all of the horological news from the past seven days, Watches of the Week. In this week’s roundup, we’ll be showcasing new watches like Audemars Piguet, MB&F and Jaeger-LeCoultre. Enjoy!
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Self-winding Flying Tourbillon
In what is a world first for the brand, Audemars Piguet released its first conceptless flying tourbillon with an automatic movement. Available in three stunning variations, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon is absolutely exceptional.
The three model variants include a steel model with a superb smoky blue Evolutive Tapisserie dial, a rose gold model with a beautiful smoky gray dial in the same Evolutive Tapisserie motif, and finally a titanium version with a sandblasted slate gray dial. All three models are powered by Audemars Piguet’s caliber 2950, an automatic flying tourbillon movement. The price is available on request at the moment.
MB&F HM3 ‘Frog X’
A decade since its unveiling, MB and F HM3 is back, this time fully clad in a sapphire crystal case. Three color variations are available, purple, blue and turquoise. I really love the use of sapphire with the HM3 ‘Frog X’, the way it exposes the inner workings of a watch so unconventional in itself is amazing.
Often times, the use of sapphire instead of a solid case highlights the imperfections of the watch, but in the case of the MB&F HM3 ‘Frog X’, that only works in its favor. Each variant is limited to 10 coins, with each coin costing $ 152,000.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Tourbillon Moon
Jaeger Lecoultre watchmaking power is undisputed and undeniable. Such is the case with its latest masterpiece of fine watchmaking, the Master Ultra-Thin Tourbillon Moon. It combines the intricate intricacies of the tourbillon with the natural beauty of a moon phase indicator in a package that’s as subtle as it is beautiful.
Clad in a rose gold case and silky white dial, the Jaeger Lecoultre Master Ultra-Thin Tourbillon Moon is, in its entirety, flawless. Which brings me to my next point, its price. the Master Jaeger-LeCoultre Ultra-Thin Tourbillon Moon is priced at a very affordable US $ 81,500 (for this watch caliber, that is). Considering how much money you earn these days, I think this is the “bargain” of the year.
Ulysse Nardin Freak X Qatar Watch Club
The third timepiece created in collaboration with Qatar Watch Club, the Ulysses Nardin The Freak X Qatar Watch Club was designed by the brand’s local retailer Ali Bin Ali with esteemed club members. Featuring a dark aesthetic underscored by the dark green hour markers, which is a color historically associated with the Middle East, the Ulysse Nardin Freak X Qatar Watch Club continues the fundamental Freak X theme as something ultra. -contemporary, super avant-garde and completely new. Limited to just 10 pieces and available exclusively at Ali Bin Ali in Qatar, the Ulysse Nardin Freak X Qatar Watch Club is priced at $ 26,000.
Girard-Perregaux x Bamford Laureato Ghost
To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Laureato, Girard-Perregaux teamed up with Bamford Watch Department. The result is the Laureato Ghost, an extremely impressive collaborative effort between the two. The Laureato Ghost is the reflection of both Girard-Perregaux and Bamford, stylistic, detailed, modern and timeless. It is made of white ceramic and comes on a white calfskin strap or white ceramic bracelet. It is a very interesting watch and it is a piece that exceeds my expectations. The Girard-Perregaux x Bamford Laureato Ghost will be produced in a limited series of only 45 pieces.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Aventador S
To mark its debut in the world of e-commerce, Roger dubuis released its latest and greatest, the Excalibur Aventador S. Limited to just 8 pieces, the Excalibur Aventador S features a titanium and ceramic composite fiber (CCF) case, a compound 20% lighter than carbon. The Excalibur Aventador S was of course heavily perforated, with virtually the entire hand-wound RD103SQ caliber on display. Definitely my favorite variation of the Excalibur Automatic so far.
